The great news is that we are fully prepared! We have the space, coops, feed, and everything else necessary to start raising chickens. All that remains is for you to come in at least twice a week to nurture and care for your chickens! This way, you won’t have to worry about:

Rent-a-Chick

Have you ever dreamed of having fresh eggs every morning or showing your children where their food comes from? Our Rent-a-Chick program allows you to experience the homesteading lifestyle without the long-term commitment or expensive infrastructure costs.

There are many factors to consider prior to owning chickens. Local regulations, space, coops, feeding, and more. Most times, many take the leap before planning, the once-excited owner gives up, and in many very unfortunate cases, the chicks don’t live past 30 weeks, and the hens are abandoned.

Little by Little Farm Rent-a-Chick removes all the uncertainty and “what ifs” from raising your very own chickens, offering you several fantastic packages to choose from!

Nurturing a chicken from egg to hen is one of the most fulfilling experiences you can have. From the moment you place the eggs in the incubator, you become part of a living process that creates connection, patience, and a profound sense of stewardship. Witnessing that tiny beak break through the shell and watching the chick grow into a confident hen establishes a bond that’s hard to achieve when purchasing adult birds. They come to recognize you, trust you, and often transform into friendlier, more relaxed flock members.

This full-life approach is for those who want a deep, personal connection, and are interested a full hands on experience.

This package give you the experience of incubating chicken eggs and raising chicks. You will receive 6 fertilized eggs and borrow an incubator. After hatching, the customer can keep the chicks or bring them to the farm to be raised with other chicks, and the Incubator is returned to the farm.

🥚 Must attend the mandatory, one hour Introduction Workshop with Little by Little Staff.

🥚 Complete the application and screening process to ensure a happy and safe incubating and hatching experience for the chicks and your family.

🥚 Allow home assessment and set up by Little by Little Farm staff.

If you choose to not keep the chicks after hatching, simply return them with no commitment.

However, if you want to enjoy your chicks on the farm in our care, you will then transition to the rental rate of $25/ month for one hen, along with $10/month per additional hen.

Hatch and Learn Package-One

This package is for those who want to experience the journey from egg to hen at home.

Price: $230.00 includes: 6 eggs, one hour Introduction Workshop, first month incubator rental fee, home assessment, and setup

*Requires an incubator rental fee for $30 a month

**Incubator must be returned and in good condition at the end of hatching.

This package gives you the flexibility to allow us to create the perfect environment for their growth on the farm. After they hatch you can:

Price: $130.00 include: 6 eggs, incubator care, and nursery care for hatchlings.

Rent-a-Chick Farm Hand Package

Dreaming of raising chickens but feeling inexperienced or not quite ready to take the plunge? Explore our basic package!

Price: $25/Month Per Hen

Additional Hen: $10/Month : Please email us to add an additional hen.

How It Works

We provide your hen with all the essentials for a happy and healthy stay, including feed, shelter, bedding, and water. While you relax at home planning your next visit, your hen will have the freedom to roam the farm, scratch the ground, and engage in all the delightful activities that chickens love. Additionally, we offer educational chicken lab days to explore chicken care in detail, and we will collect and safely store your eggs for pickup between visits.

During your visit, your responsibilities will include socializing with your hen by naming her, refreshing her coop area, feeding her, holding her, and collecting eggs to take home. Don't forget to bring her tasty treats, such as alfalfa, grubs, red berries, greens, and other approved items from the treat list!

Requirements

A set of chores will be assigned and completed at each visit which include: Filling feeders, cleaning and refilling the waterers, gathering eggs, and refilling nests.
All eggs collected from your hen by staff or yourself belong to you!
The program runs from March through October and requires a 3-month commitment, which can be renewed if your plan ends before October.
Each hen is identified by a leg band, and you will get to name your hen once assigned. You are encouraged to socialize with your hen by showing it lots of love and offering treats of grubs, red berries, leafy greens, and other goodies on the approved treats list.

Rent -a Chick application and introduction workshop must be completed prior to choosing your hen.
A minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour must be scheduled every 2 weeks to spend with your hen.
Each person must have a dedicated pair of rubber boots that are cleaned/sprayed with disinfectant upon arrival to prevent tracking avian flu/disease onto the farm, along with gardening gloves for light farm chores.

The Backyard Homestead

Rent-a-Chick Reservations for March 2026 Now Open! Reserve Your Hen Today!

After you make your purchase, you’ll receive a welcome email and an application. Once your application is submitted, a team member will contact you to schedule your required one-hour Introduction Workshop or Assessment, based on the package you select. Your first payment will cover the month of March, and you won’t be billed again until April, unless you choose to pay for all three months upfront.
